This letter will be short – and blunt.

Sports Illustrated recently published its latest Swimsuit Issue.

Sports Illustrated is utterly clueless. Tone deaf. Brain dead.

Sports Illustrated apparently hasn’t heard yet about the #MeToo movement. And I seriously doubt it has asked female staff members what they think about this stereotypical portrayal of their gender.

Sports Illustrated does not understand the concept of stereotyping – whether we’re talking about naked women (which is what many of the SI models are, for the most part) or about the true needs of men.

Sports Illustrated needs to hear a message that we can provide.

Boycott Sports Illustrated’s advertisers. And cancel your subscription.

Mark Azzara spent 45 years in print journalism, most of them with the Waterbury Republican in Connecticut, where he was a features writer with a special focus on religion at the time of his retirement. He also worked for newspapers in New Haven and Danbury, Conn. At the latter paper, while sports editor, he won a national first-place writing award on college baseball. Azzara also has served as the only admissions recruiter for a small Catholic college in Connecticut and wrote a self-published book on spirituality, "And So Are You."
