Spokane residents Robert and Anita Dygert-Gearheart have compiled information on climate and human-caused climate change into a curriculum “Wake Up World” they hope people in faith-based and non-faith-based groups will utilized to become more informed on climate challenges facing the planet.

Last week, in a speech to his beleaguered countrymen, Putin issued his most serious threats yet to employ nuclear weapons, in the field against Ukrainian forces and against the West should he decide aid to Ukraine threatens Russian regional security or threatens Russian territory.

Despite institutional inadequacies, the scope and extent of the U.N.’s influence throughout our global civilization is beyond comprehension. Just as our own country continuously struggles to unify states, so also has the U.N. struggled to bring nations together. But the trajectory is clear. Last week’s show of unity at the U.N. was unprecedented.

I agree that in general, classrooms shouldn't be a place to push a particular political ideology or campaign. However, simply being gay in school isn't a political campaign. It's a recognition that a teacher's classroom is a safe place for gay kids. If that's political to you, even if the teacher never once mentions a political candidate, you've probably got a problem with the existence of the gay kids.

The Jewish community in Spokane, and all over the world, is welcoming the new year beginning at sundown on Sunday, Sept.25. Rosh Hashanah is celebrated with family and friends, celebratory and traditional foods, religious music, chants, prayer and reflection. 

Gonzaga’s Center for Climate, Society, and the Environment will host the fourth annual Spokane Candidates Climate Change Forum in October, where candidates for local office will share with voters what they would or would not support if elected to office regarding climate change.
