Hardly a week goes by when I’m not asked why I became a religion reporter. After a decade on this beat, I’ve learned to whittle my answer into a sentence or so, when really the reasoning for this chosen field is much more complex.

This was a week after his “Faith Summit” held at Whitworth University, where the mayor sought to reach out to the faith communities and explore ways of combatting homelessness and lack of resources for impoverished inhabitants of Spokane.
