My experience at the Islamic Center was very enlightening, and I was grateful to be able to learn about the faith and customs in person. I believe if people want to learn about Islam they can go to a masjid to do so because it feels like a welcoming space.

This is in line with a report released earlier this month showing mosque participation is on the rise across the country. The U.S Mosque Survey 2020 is an ongoing comprehensive statistical study conducted in collaboration with Faith Communities Today.

On Friday night residents from a variety of faiths spilled into the Spokane Islamic Center for a brief service to show they stand in solidarity with the Muslim community after an attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand killed 50 people.

It was with feelings of inclusion and community that Temple Beth Shalom, for the first time, hosted members of the Spokane Islamic Center on Friday for a musical Shabbat, a potluck dinner and Islamic prayers.
