BRIEF: Spokane Alliance unhappy with council’s budget decision

The Spokane Alliance released a statement this week expressing its disappointment in the Spokane City Council's 2013 budget decision.

After three consecutive weeks of Alliance members asking the council to pass a budget that saves jobs and services, the council voted 4 to 3 to close a $10 million deficit by eliminating 92 jobs.

Council bans panhandling in downtown Spokane

Although there hasn’t been a single pedestrian-roadway fatality or injury related to panhandling in recent years, the Spokane City Council voted 6-1 Monday night to approve an ordinance banning panhandling in downtown Spokane, citing it as a safety issue.
