Encouraged by the “Rule of St. Benedict” to welcome all guests as Christ, this evolving Benedictine community of Sisters, oblates, employees and others enjoys the presence of students from universities across the Pacific Northwest during their academic year.

In our launch of the new "Where We Gather" series, we tell a photo story of the Monastery of St. Gertrude.

And during a year like 2020 in the midst of a pandemic these women have been using their jobs and faith to find hope and help their communities during the coronavirus.

“Living as a Monk in Everyday Life” with Sister Teresa Jackson is a nine-month Benedictine spirituality cohort program at Spirit Center at the Monastery of St. Gertrude.

Sr. Bernie also served the homeless in Spokane at Our Place Ministries, House of Charity, and St. Margaret's Shelter for women and children. She came home to the Monastery in 2011 at the age of 87 to participate in the Monastery's hospitality ministries that included tending the Grotto Garden, re-crafting greeting cards, and welcoming guests.

The 22nd Annual Raspberry Festival at the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, Idaho will take place Aug. 3 and will include numerous events, including an arts and crafts fair, live music, a kids' carnival, quilt show, Fun Run & Walk and chapel tours.

Sister Clarissa Goeckner, the prioress of the Monastery of St. Gertrude, was among those who attended the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) Region XV Meeting at the Archbishop Brunett Retreat and Faith Formation Center in Federal Way last month. Sisters in leadership who have community members ministering in the Northwest gather each fall to share information from the National Assembly Agenda, conduct regional business, do long-range planning and share community challenges, best practices and developments since the last regional meeting.
