We don’t always live up to the best of our religion’s teachings, but we have internalized some beautiful values for which we are grateful and which have guided our decisions in life.
Salt Lake City — which serves as the global headquarters for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — played host over the weekend to the marriage of Jackie Biskupski, the city’s first openly gay mayor, to her fiancee, Betty Iverson.
The latest is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Last week (Nov. 5), it issued new guidelines, saying Mormons in same-sex relationships will face possible excommunication and their children will not be permitted to join the church until they are 18 — and then only if they reject their parents’ relationship.
