A friend of mine, let’s call him Mr. Pink, once told me that in the future modern religions will be relegated to the position of mythology in our society. He said as our society becomes more educated the number of atheists will grow.

High school kids can join the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Jewish Student Union, the Muslim Students Association and, in some schools, a Hindu or a Buddhist club.
Now they can join the young atheists club, too.

One of the main reasons I was encouraged to participate in the SUSI Program was to carry the true story about how much Palestinians suffer from the Israeli occupation. Most of what Americans watch on the news about the Palestinian – Israeli conflict is not true.

This isn’t my usual religion wrap-up column because I honestly haven’t been in Spokane much this week. I’ve been down at WSU in Pullman working with 20 young journalists from the Middle East and I’ve become completely enveloped in their stories.

Some weeks ago, I was asked to speak at the Eastern Washington University Baccalaureate ceremony. I said I would, on the condition that I would wear my robe. I figured I had to pay for it, and the honors cords as well, so I’m going to wear it as much as possible.
