Journey to the Cross begins today

Al Shrock doesn’t watch the scene before him any longer. Instead he stands in the corner, engineers the hydraulics and surveys the crowd as they step into Golgotha.

Roman soldiers hiss as they force a bloodstained Jesus onto a cross and nail spikes through his hands. Shrock maneuvers the hydraulics, which he built, raising the cross against the red-lit sky.

Spokane area Palm Sunday and Holy Week listings

It's a busy season for Spokane's Christian community.

Palm Sunday begins this weekend and next week churches will celebrate services for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Journey to the Cross, an outdoor walkthrough tour of Jesus' life, begins Thursday at Spokane Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Holy week, Celtic Easter at St. David’s

St. David's Episcopal Church will begin its Holy Week celebrations on Palm Sunday with a 9 a.m. palm procession and passion readings.

Then, on Maundy Thursday, March 28, "The Story as told in Four Ritual Acts" will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a Garden of Gethsemane Watch at 8 p.m.

BRIEF: Holy Week at St. John’s Cathedral

The Cathedral of St. the Evangelist begins its observance of Christianity’s holiest week with the Liturgy of the Palms and Reading of the Passion story at the 10:30am service on Palm Sunday.
