New Community Church, a 21 year old non-denominational church, sits in the university district. The backyard bumps up against the river, providing a beautiful view for outdoor weddings. In the same building rests the No Li Brewery and Dry Fly Distillery. A great location for a church, according to Pastor Russ Davis.

The location may seem unconventional, but several Spokane churches are finding that non-traditional spaces are the way to go.

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ is the first church featured for the Historic Church Project.

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ came first, then the city of Spokane.

Built in 1890, the church watched the city grow up around it — a high school, a freeway, other churches.

A free workshop exploring Celtic Christian spirituality will be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on July 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The workshop will be presented by the Rev. Elaine Breckenridge and will focus on the historical and theological elements of Celtic Christianity.
