Catholic Charities receives grant for “The Life to Justice Initiative”

A Strategic National Grant has been awarded to the Catholic Charities of Spokane, the Catholic Charities of Yakima and the Catholic Community Services of Western Washington.

Mike Rowles, a “voice for the homeless,” will be honored with memorial service Wednesday

Local leaders, social service advocates and the homeless community will gather Wednesday morning to honor the life of Mike Rowles, a local and homeless advocate who addressed the critical needs faced by men and women living on the streets.

The memorial will be at 9 a.m. at House of Charity, 32 W. Pacific Ave.

Catholic Charities Spokane and the Catholic Diocese of Spokane will host a Mass for Life on Jan. 21 at noon at the Cathedral of our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave.  Bishop Blase Cupich will preside.

BRIEF: Father Bach Haven seeking housewares for new residents

Father Bach Haven, an apartment building that will will serve 50 chronically homeless individuals, is seeking housewares for its residents.

The facility will open its doors next month at 108 S. State St.

Catholic Charities honors Spokane’s homeless with vigil

LeeAnn Winters graduated from culinary school, landed a job and is about to move into quality local housing. She couldn’t have done it, she said, without help from Catholic Charities of Spokane.

“I grew up in a cycle of domestic violence,” she said.

Candlelight vigil set for Monday hopes to raise awareness on poverty and homelessness in Spokane

A candlelight vigil will be held Nov. 19  from 5:30-7 p.m. at the House of Charity to raise awareness of the effects of poverty and homelessness in the Spokane community.

The vigil will include supporters, staff, board members, volunteers, community members and clients of Catholic Charities, according to a press release.
