GOO_102513_whyToday a 13-year-old boy and a mother of two young children are no longer walking the earth. One killed in confusion the other trying to keep her family safe as a truck made an abrupt lane change. We ask, “Why, why did this happen?” It is a mystery. There are those things that we cannot understand with our finite mind, over time light may be shed and then again maybe it won’t. Staying in the “why” leads to guilt, blame and greater suffering.

Healing begins with “what?” What is mine to do, say, be? The answer may be to support, comfort, listen, be present, take out the trash, or bring a meal. Perhaps it is to become more conscious of our actions. As we ask, and listen, we know.

 Sitting in the sadness

I let go of “Why” and ask

“What is mine to do, be, say?”

Listening, the healing begins.
