On Purim, observant Jewish men, to varying degrees, imbibe strong drink. And Jewish women do their best to keep the men safe and anchored in civilization. The holiday thus may not seem very female-centered. But, in truth, it is.

Journalists are expected to tell the truth insofar as the truth can be discerned. But truth can be elusive. Merriam Webster defines truth in part as “a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality. [A] judgment, proposition, or idea that is true or accepted as true. [T]he body of true statements and propositions.”

YWCA Spokane announced its 2023 Women of Achievement Award Honorees on Feb. 24. The list has a selection of nine honorees including the late Sandy Williams. 

In early 2012, my dad learned that the cancer he had been diagnosed with the previous fall wasn’t going to go away. His soul’s journey in this world ended on Star Wars Day 2013 (“May the 4th be with you” – get it?) During his illness, he tried pot for the first time when a friend offered him samples that he secretly grew to help his chronic back pain instead of pharmaceuticals.

I believe there’s a commonality between the three ‘persons’ of our Holy God: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit; they ALWAYS act in a way that is without sin.

Artists “Kory Caudill + Wordsmith” will perform this Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral (127 E. 12th Ave.). Their genre-crossing original music bridges jazz, hip-hop, rock, bluegrass and storytelling and is as part of a racial reconciliation concert series of the Episcopal Church.
