The Hoonko Sangha Service commemorates the death of Shinran Shonin, the founder of Shin Buddhism. A Dharma Message will be given by special guest Reverend Dennis Fujimoto from the Buddhist Temple of Alameda. This holiday is among the most important observed in the Jodo Shinshu tradition. In the word hōonkō; ‘hōon’ means “return of gratitude” and ‘ko’ means “to clarify the meaning of” or “gathering”‘. The service will be followed by a question-and-answer time. All are welcome to attend.
