That’s the slogan on my favorite t-shirt. Why? Because, in essence, it clearly states my ideas about human having freewill. Yes, we have it, but with some interesting self-imposed limitations.

Life is at the end of the road in the smallest house that sits still, quiet, and alone.

As a scholar of Islamic ethics, I’m often asked, “What does Islam say about abortion?” – a question that has become even more salient since the U.S. Supreme Court reversed 50 years of constitutional protection for the right to get an abortion in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling on June 24, 2022.

If reincarnation were a general feature of life, stories of it would be occurring cross-culturally.

We are free to make our own decisions in life. We create are own destiny.

There are so many perspectives on abortion right now, it can be difficult to navigate. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and my own church’s stance is generally politically ambivalent. My own perspective tends to take a more personal, nuanced approach, which, thankfully, my faith encourages us to take with prayer and study. I am also a health communication researcher working on a PhD at Washington State University.  

Gun control legislation can’t rid society of evil. It simply acknowledges that evil exists.
