BRIEF: Whitworth choirs to perform annual Christmas Festival Concert in Spokane, Seattle

Whitworth_choirThe 2013 Whitworth University Christmas Festival Concert, “Welcome, All Wonders,” will take place in December in Seattle and in Spokane. The concerts will feature more than 120 student-musicians, including members of the Whitworth Choir, the Whitworth Women’s Choir, the Whitworth Men’s Chorus and the Whitworth Chamber Singers, as well as student instrumentalists and narrators, according to a press release.

 

The Seattle concerts are at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the First Presbyterian Church of Seattle on 1013 8th Ave. Tickets are $18 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors (62+). Tickets are available at www.whitworth.edu/musictickets or www.ticketswest.com, or by calling TicketsWest at 800-325-7328.

 

The Spokane concerts are at 8 p.m. on Dec. 14 and 3 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox on 1001 West Sprague Ave. Tickets are $18 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors (62+). Tickets are available at www.martinwoldsontheater.com or by calling the Fox box office at 509-624-1200.A limited number of tickets may also be available for purchase at the door prior to each concert.

“I would encourage all who have yet to attend a Whitworth Christmas Festival Concert to come and experience this year’s concert and discover why, for many in our community, their Advent and Christmas celebrations begin with this annual event,” said Marc A. Hafso, director of the Whitworth Choir, in a press release.

The concert theme, “Welcome, All Wonders,” will be elevated through choral works, readings from the Old and New Testaments and traditional carols for audience and choirs. Presented without interruption, the concert will be concluded by candlelight.The Whitworth Choir and Whitworth Chamber Singers will perform under the direction of Marc A. Hafso. Deborah Hansen, associate director of choral activities and chair of the music department, will direct the Whitworth Women’s Choir. Scott Miller, director of voice studies, will direct the Whitworth Men’s Chorus. John Bodinger will serve as organist. Mary Trotter and Mac Merchant will serve as accompanists.
