I thought I'd collect some items of wisdom that I think I've learned this year from these amazing couples.

My family is very Lutheran. On my mother's side, most of us can sing all four verses of the hymn Beautiful Savior from memory.

On the other hand, the mess is also a sign that the kitchen itself has been busy: creating desserts for a charity auction, baking supper for new friends, making daily breakfasts and lunches for children. This hospitality is holy work.

I propose we let the tolerance talk subside in favor of other virtues. One such virtue or practice that comes to mind to replace tolerance is to abide.

We huddled and gave thanks that at least some places around town had power, and also had the grace to welcome us in.

This Sunday is the Feast of St. Francis. Famous for preaching to the birds and blessings all living things, Francis is often celebrated in congregations with a Blessing of the Animals rite.
