BRIEF: Spokane Alliance unhappy with council’s budget decision

The Spokane Alliance released a statement this week expressing its disappointment in the Spokane City Council's 2013 budget decision. After three consecutive weeks of Alliance members asking the council to pass a budget that saves jobs and services, the council voted 4 to 3 to close a $10 million deficit by eliminating 92 jobs.

Tonight the city council will be voting on the most disturbing budget proposal that we've seen in some time. Mayor Condon is proposing $20,000 INCREASES for some of his staff while cutting police, fire fighters and even libraries.

The cup runneth over for some, not all

Two main groups gathered for one purpose on Aug. 20 at Spokane City Hall. Supporters of the Spokane Guilds' School, and the homeless, packed the basement because of the Vehicle Interference (Panhandling) Ordinance that would prohibit all groups from collecting money on the streets of Spokane, city-wide.

Council bans panhandling in downtown Spokane

Pastor to read proclamation on gay marriage at City Council meeting

Today outside of City Hall, the Rev. Jim CastroLang will read a proclamation from local clergy supporting gay marriage. "Today, I stand with 18 area religious leaders along with citizens and elected officials from the many neighborhoods of our city, who say to the Spokane City Council: vote yes for the Marriage Equality Resolution”, CastroLang said in a press release.
