BRIEF: St. John’s Cathedral to host recital of nine organists from the American Guild of Organists

Nine members of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), Spokane Chapter, will perform in a program titled, "King of Instruments" at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, at 4 p.m. on Nov. 10, as part of St. John’s Second Sunday recital series.

Historic Church Project: The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, standing somewhere around 190 feet tall, can be seen from just about anywhere in Spokane.

Construction began on the historic church in 1925 and the first service was held there in 1929.

Bringing Celtic spirituality to Spokane

Though the church service held many similar elements to others — prayers, worship songs and communion — two differences stood out. The service was a Celtic Eucharist and is an original creation of the Rev. Elaine Breckenridge.

BRIEF: Labyrinth Pilgrimage coming to St. John’s

The Rev. Elaine Breckenridge will be offering a mini-pilgrimage using the labyrinth at St. John's Cathedral, 127 East 12th Ave, on Aug. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A pilgrimage, she explained, is a time honored tradition involving dedicated holy walking.

Slideshow: Carillonneur returns for 4th of July concert

Wesley Arai, associate carillonist at the University of California, Berkeley, will return to Spokane for the annual Fourth of July Concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

The concert will begin at 9 p.m outside the cathedral.
