On Thursday nearly 1,000 Muslims from around the region gathered at the Spokane Islamic Center to celebrate the end of Ramadan with Eid prayers.

“Ramadan was a time to boost our batteries, and boost ourselves,” said Imam Yasser Shahin.

Sitting in a semi-circle with Qurans resting open in their laps, they one by one recited the melodic verses, glancing questioningly up at their imam between lines.

He smiled at their correct pronunciations, corrected them when their intonations or pauses were off.

On Sunday afternoon, I joined my mom, my sister and my sister's husband at the first (hopefully annual - or even more frequent?) Faith Feast: An Intercultural Progressive Dinner, put on by Spokane Faith and Values, a non-profit dedicated to increasing interfaith communication and understanding.
