The Unitarian Unversalist Church of Spokane invites the community to join it in Arms of Compassion on Saturday, where members will join hands and form a circle of prayer and support around the Sikh Temple of Spokane.

"It's symbolic to  show we're holding them in our hearts and thoughts and prayers," said the Rev. Todd Eklof, noting the Sikh community needs support after the recent shooting in Wisconsin.

The plan, Eklof said, is for non-Sikhs to join hands and encircle the temple and pray while the Sikhs worship inside.

"We'll form a container of love and safety around them," he said. "We're trying to get as many people there as possible."

Anyone interested in attending can meet at the temple Saturday at noon, 420 N. Barker Road in Spokane Valley.

Ekloff is a SpokaneFAVS contributor.
