Spokane Faith & Values readers packed the house this morning at Chairs Coffee where we held our first "Coffee Talk."

More than 30 people came to the event to talk with six of our writers about faith, God and the Newtown shooting.

Panelists were Kyle Franklin, Dean Bill Ellis, Joe Newby, the Rev. Joe Niemiec Jr., Pastor Eric Blauer and Bruce Meyer

The conversation touched on gun control, violence in society, youth, education and much, much more. Perhaps the strongest message everyone walked away with was that we're all part of this community, and need help those on the fringes of this community.

We look forward to our next "Coffee Talk" in February. Stay tuned for details! And a big thanks to everyone who attended for making our first conversation a success!

Spokane’s religion wrap-up: 2013, Coffee Talk, Retreats, Spokane Pagans, Homeless campers

Happy 2013! That is, assuming you don't think 13 is unlucky. The reasons people think this are endless. In Christianity, 13 is considered fateful because there were supposedly 13 people at the Last Supper. But, apparently, it’s going to be a big year for weddings. It’s cheaper to get married in year ending in 13, ya’ know.

Today’s Coffee Talk to focus on Gender and Spirituality

How is gender equality handled in faith communities? How can or should it be improved? Though this isn’t necessarily a conversation about women’s rights, we’d like to provide a platform for the community to dialogue about how men and women can better work together.
