Perhaps you’ve noticed we have a cool new feature on our site called Where We Worship. This is where we profile places of worship in Spokane, hence the name. This week we highlighted Unity Church, Spokane. Anyhoo, it finally feels like summer here. People are hiking and exploring the outdoors, as they should. It’s beautiful in and around Spokane right now. Our own Eric Blauer captured this picture of the Centennial Trail. And a little north, Venerable Thubten Jigme captured these amazing photos of the garden at the Sravasti Abbey.

If you’re cooler than me, and you probably are, then you’ve probably already heard of Zayn Malik, the Muslim pop star. He’s with the British band One Direction and he has all the tweens swooning. Anyway, he and his band will be in Seattle July 28th if you’re interested.

If you prefer a little more notice for big events, then you’ll appreciate knowing that Whitworth has announced dates for Parents Weekend 2012. It will be Oct. 19-21. There’s lots of fun stuff planned, including lectures like, “Let's Fight! Leadership and Conflict Management from a Christian Perspective” by Jack Burns and “What Made Whitworth Whitworth?” by Dale Soden. You can see a full schedule and register here.

Finally, I’d just like to point out that Monday is a sacred day for the Bahai’s in our community. On July 9 Bahá'ís celebrate the Martyrdom of the Báb. The Báb was a central figure in the faith and was killed by an Armenian firing squad in 1850 because at the time his beliefs did not meet the approval of the leaders of the state religion in Persia. Bahá'ís rest on this day and read special prayers.
