Humanists find ways to say ‘I do’ without God

Amanda Holowaty didn’t need God to get married. She just needed her husband Mike. When the Wilmington atheist couple decided to join their lives a year ago, they knew they wanted a secular wedding celebrant, but their families weren’t so sure.

BRIEF: Report shows religious convictions not among most desired parental traits

A survey released last week showed most Americans believe good parents should be loving, supportive and protecting, but few see the necessity of parents having a commitment to Christianity or religion. He was a school master and retired pastor and was going home and then he was gone in the speed of a car. A screech, pain, blood and he was sent home to the God he followed throughout his life.

God knows we need community

We want to have it all together and try to fool God — whatever form God takes in our lives — into believing that we have it all together. The truth, though, is that God recognizes that we are in need of healing, whether we make that clear or not.

How to ask for help

When do we ask for help? I have often thought about this question. For various reasons, life becomes overwhelming. We struggle and suffer under seemingly impossible trials at one time or another.
