“Faitheist” author coming to EWU, urges Atheists and believers to work together
Chris Stedman thinks Atheists and believers have some key things in common and should start working together to improve society.
He writes about this in his book, “Faitheist: How an Atheist Found Common Ground with the Religious” and will discuss it further on April 29 at Eastern Washington University, where he’ll spend the day visiting with students and community members about the importance of interfaith work.

Whitworth students to celebrate anti-trafficking efforts with block party
The Associated Students of Whitworth University will be celebrating their year-long efforts against human trafficking by hosting a fundraising for Lutheran Community Services Northwest next month.
The event will include benefit concerts by Barcelona and He Is We, small stage performances by local artists, and outdoor games, such as a basketball tournament and relay race, according to a press release.

Missions trip changes Eastern student
Cherie Vaughn-Dahlgren had been walking inside of the building when she saw a large spider, as big as her hand, crawling on the cement wall.
This was one of several surprising things she encountered during her time in Haiti.

BRIEF: Whitworth affirms, expands Presbyterian partnerships
The Whitworth University Board of Trustees this month adopted a statement that affirms and expands Whitworth’s relationship with the Presbyterian Church and elevates the university’s theological identities, according to a press release.
The statement is the culmination of a yearlong inquiry a board-appointed Task Force on Denominational Relationships conducted in anticipation of the June 2013 expiration of the university’s current covenant agreement with the Synod of Alaska-Northwest and the concurrent cessation of the synod’s functions.

Whitworth President Beck A. Taylor has been elected to the board of directors of the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities.

BRIEF: Discussion on Nez Perce Prayers created by Cataldo to be held this month
On April 20, Catherine Brown Tkacz will present a lecture about the prayers that Gonzaga University founder the Rev. Joseph Cataldo, S.J., composed and translated into the Nez Perce language. BRIEF: Scholar to lecture on Holocaust, feminine space in Judaism
Andrea Lieber, associate professor of religious studies at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., will lecture and lead a discussion in two events at Gonzaga University on Holocaust Remembrance Day, which begins the evening of April 7 and ends the evening of April 8.
Lieber will speak on and invite discussion on the topic, “What Does the Holocaust Mean to You?” — starting at 5:30 p.m., April 7 in the Foley Center Library, Teleconference Room.
