VIEWPOINTS: Are you concerned about the influence Hollywood movies can have on the faith and values of adolescents?

Yes and no

Yes and no.

I know there is common sense and studies that show the connections between environment, education, example and exposure and behavior. But I also know that not everyone responds to everything the same way.

I think movies can be a way to indulge, work out, process, question, escape, etc. When my parents were going through their divorce, "The Lord of the Rings" books became my anesthetic and counselor. I was saved in many ways from greater self destruction from being able to escape to an alternate reality while my current one was falling apart.

I try to teach people to be discerning, level headed thinkers about whatever they consume be it food, news, entertainment or social relationships. There's a lot of junk out there and there is beautiful artistic and entertaining work.

Viewer discretion advised

My parents were really careful about what they allowed us to watch, and the often previewed a movie  so they could  figure out which parts might need to be skipped over.
