VIEWPOINTS: Has Christmas lost its meaning?

In many stores around Spokane, Christmas decorations went on sale before Halloween candy hit the shelves.

Last year Pope Benedict XVI said the faithful to look beyond the holiday's "superficial glitter" to discover its true meaning.

Do you think the pontiff was right? Have we become so consumed with Christmas lights and gifts that the holiday has lost its meaning?

Many celebrate Christmas a non-religious holiday

It is no longer a simple question, as more people become “unchurched” and the United States becomes even more diversified, there is a larger population that celebrate the holiday as a nonreligious holiday — an opportunity to party and give gifts.

Keeping Christmas

It seems like an archaic term, "keeping Christmas." I remember it well from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. And it does have a Dickensian quality to it.
