Season for nonviolence

At our Center for Spiritual Living we celebrate Season for Nonviolence, which was started and continued by the Association for Global New Thought.

We honor it as a way of bringing new possibility to the world at large. We have our hearts in the sky while our feet are firmly planted on the ground.

I read the news and I am very aware of the violence perpetrated person to person and nation to nation, but I firmly believe in the possibility of a peaceful coexistent world. I know, in fact, this possibility begins with the individual, looking at the world within with new eyes, making forgiveness and compassion a part of my life, releasing “what was or is” to allow movement into what could be.

I was on a phone call with a rabbi from Jerusalem a couple years ago; even though he did not see the possibility for peace in the Middle East, he had been working for it for more than 20 years, and he still continues the work. Whatever work I do may not have an effect in the moment; it is still a contribution to my life and to the greater world.

The work we begin may not be realized in our lifetime. This does not, however, diminish our efforts. A tree may take years to produce fruit and will continue to produce long beyond the time the person that planted it is still present. Plant something worthwhile in your life.
