At SpokaneFAVS we recently discussed some of our concerns regarding the values of the media and entertainment industry. That question sparked some thought for me about the freedom of technology.
Tools (like Apple TV and others) are being offered and developed that enable parents and individuals to pick the content they desire to watch and choose when they want to watch it. With more and more TV content available online and movies and TV shows being peddled through Netflix, Xbox, Amazon, Apple and Hulu+ the consumer is being provided with many more options to pick and choose instead of a one size fits all package approach shoved on them by the cable cartels.
I sat down the other night and watched an episode of my favorite AMC western series called "Hell on Wheels" via the Internet through my iPad connected to my Apple TV viewed on my TV. The quality was fine, one ad per commercial and all with the swipe of a few buttons. With so much garbage out there in la la land, the ability to pick and choose is becoming a glorious power to wield. Purchasing these types of tools sends a message to the power brokers that be, to create content that is accessible in this manner, which means more control for us and less junk you have to wade through each time you want to enjoy some entertainment. If these issues matter to you I encourage you to explore some of the new technology available and share your own discoveries too.
"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise," Philippians 4:8
What tools are you using to improve the options, cost and availability of quality digital entertainment?
