You've probably seen the video of three middle school kids verbally abusing and bullying an older woman who was a bus monitor in such a cold and cruel fashion that one is left wondering what's next?
Paul called it a long time ago when he prophesied that there would be a ground swell of young, godless, lawless, selfish packs of feral youth who would terrorize their communities. This is a growing reality in many places and your kid's bus is probably one of them.
"But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self...boastful, arrogant...disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God," Paul 2, Timothy 3:3-4.
In elementary school my son has been threatened, bullied, hit, chased, verbally terrorized and had a knife pulled on him. This year he heads to middle school. Stuff like this video shows infuriates and frightens me.
How do we, as a families and community, effectively deal with the rising ugliness we see in our neighborhoods, schools and homes?

I have no easy fix to the bully situation — what seems to be one of the big social issues of this decade. I just know it scares the pants off me as I watch my kids grow up…

Eric,
I agree with your application of the last days scripture. I believe there are many signs in our society and in the world around us that time before Jesus second coming is near. That has more than one response in my heart. Excitement to see the Lord, and heaviness for those who don’t know Him yet, even in my own family. I want them to come along. Bullying in my opinion is just a modern name for works of the flesh that you referenced from the Bible. May God grant to us wisdom and courage as we live out our time in history.

I’ve always held to the story of Daniel amd his friends in Babylon as an example of how godly youth can excell and rise to the challenge of their generation even among opposing world views, lion pits and cultural idols. May God give us more such young men and women in this hour who will lead and not bow.

Eric,
Amen to that!
