This article and the authors arguments in the comments with the people she wrote about in her piece, shows a level of self righteousness that troubles me. In light of the massive division between conservatives and progressives on the issues surrounding LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) matters, I can't understand the need to categorize and label your opponents and even your allies in this way.

This is the kind of judgment and illogical rhetoric that exposes the strawman of "tolerance" for what it often is, a shaming tool, used to bully people into doing what said group desires the other to do or say.

It's a power game, and whenever a group begins to gain power or receive power then the gloves come off and the pummeling begins. This is ugly and I hope it doesn't reflect the path and pathos ahead for all of us in this "kinder, gentler more tolerant" culture.

No matter which hand is slapping us, the right or the left, it's still judgmental, mean spirited and hateful.
