Centenniel Trail in Spokane Credit: Eric Blauer

If you have not strolled along the Centennial Trail this summer, you should try the section between Gonzaga and downtown. It's gorgeous right now. Many people are unaware of the treasures right under their noses in Spokane. I was surprised when a friend of mine said she has never been for a walk on the Centennial Trail, even though they live close to it.

One of the blessings of living in Spokane is the easy access to people-free wild areas and to the many urban nature spots scattered throughout the city. If you find spiritual rejuvenation in the outdoors, then this corner of the Northwest is easy to call home.

This morning in my bible reading, I read this verse:

"Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him," Luke 22:39 (NIV.)

Jesus had favorite spots he liked to hike as well, and he often took friends along with him to enjoy those natural sanctuaries where the body and soul can be replenished.

Where are your favorite walks or hikes?

  1. Eric, I’m going to have to go explore this trail with my dog! Last weekend I went hiking for the first time since I moved here. Can you believe it?! I have no excuse. But it was so wonderful. The higher I climbed, the more connected to God I felt. There’s something about nature and the great outdoors and the quiet that’s truly spiritual.
